Köyceğiz-Dalyan Special Protection Area, İzmir Kingfisher and Mass Breeding Bird Species Research, Monitoring and Conservation Project


Focusing on the Izmir Kingfisher, whose population is rapidly decreasing in Europe, remaining of which only is in Turkey, the project was carried out between April 2010 and November 2010 in Muğla, Köyceğiz-Dalyan Special Environmental Protection Area, where the species breeds.

Within the scope of the project;

• Population size, habitat preference and feeding and reproductive biology of the Izmir kingfisher were investigated,

• Threats against the Izmir kingfisher were monitored and protection measures were determined in the area,

• Mass breeding bird species and important breeding habitats in the area were determined,

• The awareness of the local people towards the area was increased
